You ever wish you could wake up in the morning and skip the mascara and eyelash curling? You know, maybe cut your morning routine in half by not having to shimmy your mascara wand through your lashes to get them perfect? Well here at Prep we have you covered; not only do we have our eyelash extensions service, we are now offering Lash Lifts!

Imagine waking up with naturally long lashes! Without the exhausting coats of mascara and efforts curling the lashes just to realize you’ve missed all the baby lashes on the side! Ugh! For those Prép ladies who are wanting a more subtle look without wearing false strip lashes or eyelash extensions, Prép has special little secret to share! Come a little closer..

img_8931Some of you ladies may know what I’m talking about when I say I suffer with “straight lash syndrome”. Warning!!  This is a very serious topic! I have been cursed with a SERIOUS birth beauty defect! Being half Asian and all… My mother is Japanese and also has very straight but fabulously thick lashes. What do we do about this? We use eyelash curlers and pray that the room isn’t too humid to have them fall back down again immediately after… We have tried everything, from heating the eyelash curler with a hair dryer, to using an actual heated lash curler, but still no staying power… Not to worry!  I was blessed to have found this fabulous (not new) invention, call the LASH LIFT!

What’s this I speak of? This “LASH LIFT” is a quick and painless way to temporarily to semi-permanently curl your natural lashes! Wear less makeup, and just add mascara if you want to thicken up! No need for eyelash extensions but can always add extensions for the extra va-va-voom and curl if desired!

We start the lash lift process by adding a gel pad to the bottom baby lashes to ensure they don’t run off! Just kidding! We do this with eyelash extensions as well! Now to determine the curve of the lashes, we have structured and curved silicon pads that are placed on the eyelid. These curved pads come in a variety of sizes and slopes to make for different lash curl looks. This is similar to the different curls of eyelash extensions we offer (B, D, C, etc). The larger the raise on the silicon pad, the larger the curve of the lashes, meaning that if you go for a smaller raised bump on the pad, you will have more lift. Our Prép technician will carefully observe and select the correct size so you leave with the look you desire! Gently lifting the top lashes,  we adhere the lashes to the curve of the pad.  After the lashes are adhered to the curve, your Prép technician will then apply a perm gel as well as setting or top gel so your lashes stay freshly curled for 6-8 weeks!

The whole process takes about an hour from start to finish, and lasts about 6-8 weeks! Imagine your naturally thick full lashes, actually being curled as well, so every morning you wake up and see your pretty peepers staring back at you. Why not add a tint as well to the lash lift, so not only are your eyelashes beautifully curled, but dark and full as well? Ugh, why didn’t I know about this when I was in high school and learned the hard way that using an eyelash curler at 5 in the morning very tired and shaky could result in ripping out half of your natural lashes?!

Eyelash Extension After Care With Prép Beauty Parlour

First time getting lash extensions? Don’t worry here are the do’s & don’ts of eyelash after care for classic, mixed &IMG_4778 copy Russian volume/ 3D lashes!

 

Prép For Appointment:  Please remove all makeup before arriving to your appointment, we understand some clients may be coming straight from work.. which is perfectly okay! In this case you may need to arrive a few minutes early for us to help you remove your makeup to prepare for the lash appointment. Limiting your caffeine/ sugar intake before hand insures a relaxing and comfortable experience. If you like to shower/ wash your hair each day we ask you please do this before your appointment as you cannot get your lashes wet for a minimum of 24 hours.

 

After Care:  The lashes can not get wet for 24 hours minimum so we do ask that you shower before hand if needed. Oil is a big no no for lashes… if you must wear mascara with your lashes please make sure the mascara you are using is water based, we offer Belvada; the best water based mascara for your lashes! Plan on traveling, exercising frequently or living in a humid climate? IntelliSeal Eyelash Sealer is perfect for your classic lashes, it blocks fumes while drying agents cure the adhesive to it’s fullest potential. Try not to rub your eyes or tug on your lashes too much as it may make your natural lashes fall out prematurely, if you sleep on your stomach this may also happen. Before gel extensions were popular, the raging nail trend must have was acrylic nails. Acrylic nails are made by using a mixture of liquid monomer and powder polymer, which is applied to the top of the nails and then hardens when exposed to air. While acrylic nails are still widely popular, the newer and ultimately better for you option, is gel extensions.

Gel extensions are applied in 3 steps. After the nails are filed and buffed, a base coat is applied. From there, a thick, malleable sculpting gel is spread over top of the nail and can also be used to create an extension off the nail. The gel is spread around the nail evenly, creating a smooth canvas for colouring. Instead of exposing the gel to air, the nails are placed under a UV light for 2-3 minutes. After the gel is cured (fully hardened) the nails can be filed and shaped and then colour can be applied. The process ends with a top coat that also is placed under UV light to cure, and finished by a quick swipe of alcohol to remove the tacky surface left behind from the top coat.

While both are great options for extensions, there is no denying the clear differences. Acrylic nails tend to seep through the nail bed, which can be dangerous and can be a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus. Gel extensions sit on top of the nail bed and cause the least damage to the nail bed. The polymer used in acrylics is also extremely bad for inhalation, and is not recommended for use in areas without proper ventilation. Although gel extensions also use a chemical process to bond to the nail, acrylic nails are made up of stronger chemicals and produce more potent fumes. Gel extensions do not give off any fumes, and are considered an eco-friendlie option. Acrylic nails are not recommended for women pregnant or nursing, whereas gel extensions can be applied no matter if you are with child or without.

Nail Care:
Having extensions doesn’t mean you don’t need to still take care of your natural nails! Nail health is almost more important after you apply extensions to the nails. Be sure to clean underneath, on top, and the skin surrounding your nails with a nail brush and gentle antibacterial soap daily to keep bacteria to a minimum. Because they have been exposed to chemicals, over time the nail bed will soften. It is important to take a break, every year or so, to let your natural nails breathe and grow. As extensions grow out, they also detach from the nail bed and that’s where you can accumulate a major fungal or bacterial infection; make sure you are scheduling fills according to the time it takes your nails to grow out. Broken nails can also be a hazard for bacteria growth, so if you do break a nail, try to schedule an appointment with your certified nail technician right away.
