Types of Eyelash Extensions Vancouver | Prép Beauty Parlour

It’s that time again where everybody is resorting to our favourite summer beauty essential- Lash Extensions! Why? It’s low maintenance, looks great, and semi- permanent! No more frazzled late mornings, or worrying about that mascara dripping down your face during those yoga sessions in Yaletown (Disclaimer! Remember to wait a full 48 hours for your lash glue to cure before you do activities that will allow water to touch your face!)

Today we will be going over the several types of lash extensions that Prép offers!

Currently, we offer 4 main types of lash extensions which we found are very loved by Vancouverites!

Full Russian Volume, Mixed Russian & Classic, Royal Full Set, and our most popular – Classic Full Sets!

1- Everybody’s go-to, our famous Classic Full Set

Classic Sets are the stepping stones to bigger and better lashes! They can range from looking glamorous, to short & sweet! There are many different lash styles that can be achieved with these sets, (click here to read more about our styles!). A set of lashes are considered to be classic when your lash technician isolates each one of your natural lashes, and glues a synthetic lash on top! The only exception is sometimes your lash technician may purposely not apply a lash to a natural lash. This be because lashes all grown at all different speeds and cycles, so we have some baby and some full grown lashes! Sizes of the synthetic can range from natural, to full touching-my-eyebrow length. However, although these long lashes might look gorgeous, they can be very damaging to your natural lashes if they are more than 2-3mm longer. Lashes that are too long can be too heavy for your natural lashes!

2- Royal Full Sets / Ellipse Lashes / Flat Lashes

Similarly to Classic sets, Royal sets are again, applied individually- one synthetic to one natural. The only difference is the shape of royal lashes are flat, thus they create a thicker, darker look. You might be thinking; Wouldn’t this mean, I would have to go shorter, because they are thicker? The answer? Nope! In fact, the flat lashes are actually lighter! Yup! This means you can go beyond the 2-3mm and get longer, more lush, lashes! Why choose flat lashes? Because of the way they are shaped, these lashes are designed for people who have A, sparse lashes, and B, people with shorter lashes. As mentioned, it gives a set of lashes the perfect darkness and thickness that replaces mascara completely! The flatness definitely amps up the voluminous look that so many of us with sparse lashes crave! The curved/flat style of the lash allows it to sit more comfortably on the natural lash, allowing the glue to seep through, giving the lashes a better hold, and better longevity! 3- Mixed Russian & Classic Full Set

Russian Volume sets are super popular due to their fluffiness and the look of lavish lashes without needing to have an abundance of natural lashes. But for those who want the same fluffiness without all the drama, Mixed Russian & Classic Sets are the epitome of ‘fluffy & natural’ lashes! This set consists of classic lashes, and fans. Fans are the 2D/3D/4D that comes after the names of every volume set (ie: Russian Volume 2D). The number is essentially the amount of lashes per fan! Check below:

4- Full Russian Volume Full Set

Russian Volume full sets mean that every single individual lash has a fan glued on. Any volume set is perfect for people who have sparse lashes as it adds the appearance of more lashes! They appear less thick than royals and classics because the weight of 1 fan (Whether it be composed of 2-5+ lashes), is essentially the same weight of 1 classic or 1 royal lash. For people who prefer thicker, mascara looking lashes, royal and classic lashes are the way to go! Russian lashes appear very fluffy and can appear very natural.

Eyelash extensions have been all the rave all year, and is definitely on our Summer #MUST-HAVE list! They’re amazing for the hot weather, where you can enjoy the nice summer breeze on the beaches of Kitsilano, and go swimming all you want at English Bay! (Click here to read more about showing some summer lash love!). For the glam ladies who love a full, voluminous look, today’s topic is just for you! For starters, there are many types of styles, classics, royals, and the ones that are constantly trending on Insta– Russian Volume sets! Keep reading to read about our special July promotion for you ladies to enjoy this summer!

There are so many gorgeous pictures and #lashinspo all over multiple social media outlets- and if you’re like us and like to go crazy and read all about them, you’re at the right place!

With so many choices and lash extension specialists in Vancouver, how do you know what to look for when picking your new lash bae?

Particularly with getting volume lashes, one must be very careful when picking and making sure you’re with a certified technician. Don’t be fooled by the photos! Although some may look very appealing, it can be in fact, very damaging for your natural lashes! Here are several things to look for when browsing through their Yelp photos!

Check the amount of time they are taking for a full set of Russian Volume lashes.

At Prép, a full Russian Volume 3-D set means that 3 synthetic lashes are carefully crafted by your Prép technician. This service can take up to 3 hours and if not, even more! If the amount of time they have you booked in for a Russian Volume 3D Full set is approximately 1-2 hours, then there is a possibility that they are using pre-made, store bought clusters on your lashes! Read more below!

So what is the difference between volume lashes and cluster lashes ?

Cluster lashes are perfect for a one night makeup look, since they blend in perfectly and are super comfortable to wear! However, if applied the same way lash extensions are, they can cause significant damage on your natural lashes! Since cluster lashes already have glue on the bottom holding the other lashes together, if placed on ONE of your natural lashes, it will be too heavy! If they are place over multiple natural lashes, they can be very painful! As all of your natural lashes grow at a different rate, applying a heavy cluster lash on top will cause your natural lashes to tug on each other. With repeated use of cluster lashes being on your natural lashes, your natural lashes will begin to have balding patches that will take forever (and we mean forever, to grow back!)

Look at their photos! No photos? No excuses! It is super important that you are able to look at the lashes up close for anything that might be a red flag! For example? Look at the base to check if they are using pre-made fans, or if they are hand made, true Russian Volume lash fans! Examples below!

Several things are major warning signs for these lashes!

1- You can clearly tell these are pre-made, store bought clusters from the way they are lumpy at the bottom of the lashes. Notice how the clump is on several very thin natural lashes? Shiver!!

2 & 4- Not only do we see the overuse of lash glue on these lashes, but also the fact they are on the eyelid, directly on the skin! Lashes should never be applied on the skin! This can cause severe irritation. The lashes will damage the natural lashes underneath if it starts to grow and pull away from other lashes!

3- If the picture of the Russian Volume lashes have lashes as thick as these, stray away! Think about it this way, the weight of 3(sometimes up to 8D!) lashes should be equivalent to those of 1 classic lash! If a volume set is being built with so many thick lashes, it will be too heavy for the natural lashes to endure! Meaning more lash fall out!!

Now onto our favourite wedding or event nail looks! Traditionally, brides would often be seen with a French gel manicure. A French manicure, or pink and white (in the acrylic world..!!), is typically when the tip of the nail is white, while the base is sheer pink or clear. No don’t get us wrong. We LOVE and absolutely adore French nails! But sometimes… it’s just not enough!

French manicures are super classy and neat, essential for the modern business woman. But it doesn’t always suit everybody! For those with a smaller nail bed, getting french nails may shorten the appearance of your nails- leaving them looking stubby. For those who do enjoy wearing gel extensions, but again, have a small nail bed, getting a french extension manicure may mean getting uneven nails! No! Not uneven like bumpy- but uneven in the sense that the white part of the nail may overpower the clear, since all of the white is supposedly the extension.

Eyelash Extensions at Prép Beauty Parlour

So you’ve seen our last post here and you think you know everything there is to know about lash extensions..right? Nope! There’s more! And don’t you worry, we’ll be walking you through that today! Today we’ll be going over the different types of lash curls and lengths, as well as styles and which shape would be best suited for you!

The synthetic lash that is glued onto one of your natural lashes come in a variation of styles. At Prép we carry B, C, D, and J/A curls.

Different Lash Extension Looks

A/J curls are the most natural and have the least curl in them. A/J curls have little to no curl at all. As flat, no curl lashes, they blend in the easiest and are perfect for those who are getting lashes for the first time and enjoy a very subtle, natural look.

B curls- B curls are the next level of curls. They have a very slight curl and are again, suitable for those who are wanting a natural look to their extensions. They also suit those who are wanting to simply extend the length of their natural lashes without adding too much drama to them.

C curls- C curls are popular for those who usually wear make-up and enjoy a strong look- thats clear that you’re wearing lash extensions. They may even appear as if you are wearing eyeliner. They are noticeable and look gorgeous!

D curls- D curls are the most dramatic type of curl that we carry. These are good for people who hooded eyes or have lashes that are long, but are covered by the shape of their eye. Many clients will come in and have had experiences with C-Curl lashes and expect a dramatic curl, just to notice that the curls are not visible from the front view and instead, only from a side view.

L & L+ curls- These curls look the same as they are named- an L shape! These can only be made possible in a lash lift and may not suit everybody. It is also important to remember that lashes of different curls, length and width may look different on everybody’s lashes!

Moving onto the lash styles, lash extensions, similar to false strip lashes, can be used to create many looks that can accentuate your eye shape. Prép lash technicians will use a variation of sizes and lengths to design the shape properly for each lovely client.

Lash Extension Styles

Natural- Natural style is good for well, those wanting a natural look! They are closest to the natural eye shape. There may be slightly longer lashes attached near the middle as well as the ends, the extensions should match your natural lash style.

Cat-Eye- Cat eyes are sexy, seductive, and stunning! This style is most fitting for shorter and rounder eyes, and will elongate your eyes. “cat-eyes” for those who are hoping to elongate their eyes without the use of eyeliner. Your lash technician will discuss with you as to which curl works out to be the best for the looks.

Doll/Open- Eye/Cute-Prép recommend “cute” or commonly known as doll eye for those who have longer eyes, this style will really open up your eyes! This kind of style suits those who have smaller eyes. The longer lashes in the middle will open up your eyes and create a doe eye look.
